Legacies

A Residuary Legacy - all or part of the remainder of your estate, after other legacies and commitments have been paid.

A Pecuniary Legacy - a sum of money, specified in your Will. Please note that unless a pecuniary legacy is Index Linked or reviewed regularly, rises in inflation will affect the value over time and therefore reduce the final real value of the gift.

A Specific Legacy - a certain item (perhaps some shares or jewellery) specified in your Will.

A Conditional Legacy - Jabez would benefit if any or all of the other beneficiaries in your Will die before you.

A Reversionary Legacy - you could choose to leave something (such as your house) to a partner or friend for their use during their lifetime, with the value passing to Jabez when they die.

Should you wish to remember Jabez in your Will, you might want to take the following wording suggestions for a Residuary Legacy or a Pecuniary Legacy to your solicitor. They should ensure that your wishes are accurately followed. (Please note: these are only wording suggestions; we strongly recommend that you speak with your solicitor about your intentions.)

Residuary Legacy

"I give ……% (………………………… percent) of the residue of my real and personal estate which I can dispose of by Will in any manner I think proper to The Jabez Education and Development Charitable Trust (Registered Charity No. 1100901) of Byways, Shuckburgh Road, Priors Marston, Warwickshire, CV47 7RS, and the receipt of the Honorary Treasurer or the proper officer for the time being of The Jabez Education and Development Charitable Trust shall be a complete discharge to my Executors."

If you would like to make any other kind of Legacy gift to Jabez in your Will, please speak with your solicitor.

It is important to ensure that the following clause is also inserted for all Legacies:

"If at my death any charity named as a beneficiary in this Will or any Codicil hereto has changed its name or amalgamated with or transferred its assets to another body then my Executors shall give effect to any gift made to such charity as if it had been made (in the first case) to the body in its changed name or (in the second place) to the body which results from such amalgamation or to which such transfer has been made."
